  The backhoe loader is widely regarded as the world’s most versatile piece of earthmoving equipment. This “jack-of-all-trades” is used extensively in the construction, mining, and civils sectors. Its low operating cost, versatility and productivity offer an ideal solution where traditionally only time intensive manual labour would have sufficed.
The work rate of the backhoe loader is high, with a corresponding burden on operators. Operators are required to exercise a high degree of precision and concentration as they manoeuvre over difficult terrain and operate in confined spaces, always in close proximity to manual labourers.
Under such circumstances, poor operator training and improper use of the equipment, severely degrades productivity and makes site incidents all too common. With this in mind, the CYBERMINE backhoe loader simulator applies state-of-the-art technologies to provide for the training, re-training, screening and evaluation of operators of this equipment in its typical environment, before they join the crew on site.
The CYBERMINE backhoe loader operator is immersed in a highly realistic 3D virtual world, projected on three wide screen displays located about the operator’s cab. The cab is replicated with two independent sets of equipment to provide all instruments and controls correctly located about the operator for each of the loader and backhoe operations.
Exercises may be tailored to address the wide range of training requirements, including operations with different soil types, varied times of day and weather conditions, as well as artificially intelligent vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Furthermore, dangerous sub-system failures and advanced emergency situations are carefully modelled to test even the most seasoned operator.
The operator’s inputs are continually monitored and recorded on the simulator's instructor station. These performance reports together with the instructor’s after-action review capability provide a complete backhoe loader training and evaluation system.
Highly efficient and effective training is therefore realised with no loss of production and no danger of accidents, even in the most complex of emergency situations.
