The cyberCRANE™Crane Simulator was developed in close collaboration with a team of end-user specialists as an excellent tool for the training and re-training of container crane operators.

The cyberCRANE™ simulation and training modules were painstakingly designed to achieve the following aims:

to train novice students in all essential aspects of container crane operation
to provide an objective recruit selection and orientation system
to provide a readily available and accessible means of refresher training for experienced container crane operators
to provide objective performance evaluation and feedback for both novice and experienced container crane operators.

The cyberCRANE™ Crane Simulator is based on the physical characteristics of a typical wharf gantry crane. The replicated physical characteristics include all left and right panel instruments, lights, controls and joysticks, each of which is made functional by the simulation software.

The operator views the virtual world on two high resolution wide screen monitors. This world is fully textured and contains all those elements required for training, including a typical loading scene complete with wharfside, ship (cellular or non-cellular), containers (6m and 12m), trucks, straddle carriers and crane superstructure. The behaviour of the objects within the simulated world is highly realistic, providing effective training of the student in loading and offloading containers under various conditions. A two degree of freedom motion seat provides the operator with realistic attitude and motion cues during the simulation, and a high fidelity 40W RMS per channel audio system is capable of reproducing realistic sound effects such as motors, collisions and alarms. All User interfacing with the course material, system management software and software simulations is via user friendly menu structures based on the standard Microsoft Windows operating system interfaces.
