ThoroughTec to Showcase CYBERMINE Simulators at IMARC 2014

Training simulator provider ThoroughTec Simulation will be demonstrating its state-of-the-art fourth generation CYBERMINE simulator at the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) in Melbourne, Australia from 23-25 September.
IMARC is one of Australia’s premier international mining events and is held at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.
CYBERMINE simulators are designed to improve safety and productivity for mine vehicle operators, whether for surface or underground mining. They’re useful for training and evaluating novices in the proficient operation of heavy equipment, providing a new-recruit screening system and effective refresher training for experienced operators. The training simulator is also the ideal tool to train operators on how to react in emergency situations, which is not possible on the actual mining equipment.
The latest generation’s state-of-the-art design includes an accurate replica of the vehicle’s cab, a motion platform with three or six degrees of freedom and a 270° or 360° panoramic, high resolution projection display system with surround sound audio. Control of all aspects of training and evaluation is exercised in real time from a feature rich instructor station.

Goldcorp uses a fourth-generation CYBERMINE simulator for a Cat R1600G LHD to evaluate the way operators react to emergencies. The simulator has proved particularly useful in assessing how equipment operators respond to fires and in teaching them how not to wear down tyres, says Greg Lew, executive vice president and director of global business development. Tyres for an LHD cost thousands of dollars each, so it is essential to ensure they are not unnecessarily worn down or damaged. “Some of their scoop operators were spinning the front wheels as they drove the bucket into the muck pile, which obviously decreases tyre life,” Lew says.

NORCAT Improves Training with New Simulator
NORTHERN LIFE – SEPTEMBER 2014 In November 2013, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation provided NORCAT with $1 million to help purchase the simulator. Jason Bubba, NORCAT’s director of training and development, said the simulator provides the closest experience to actually operating the equipment in an underground mine. “The technology has essentially grown to the point where it’s very realistic and very effective,” he said. The simulator is in a moveable trailer, and includes a computer for the trainer, and interchangeable controls that replicate a number of machines.

Goldcorp’s Red Lake Mine Recognises Training Simulation Benefits
MINING.COM – SEPTEMBER 2014 With four shafts, 1,100 employees and nearly 500 contractors, Goldcorp’s Red Lake gold mine in Ontario, Canada is a massive operation, located in one of the world’s most prolific gold districts. Underground, the tunnels bustle with mining equipment, including LHDs and underground trucks. With workforce health and safety a top priority, Red Lake invested in a fourth-generation CYBERMINE simulator made by global training simulator provider ThoroughTec Simulation. This was to help them not only maintain and improve safety levels but also productivity. The containerised system started being put to good use toward the end of 2013 and is proving to be a valuable part of the mine’s training and evaluation programme. Philippines Mining Sector Can Benefit From Simulation
